Sequencing in Ladder Logic

Hey Controls Champions!

Welcome back for another video. Today we’re talking about the heart of almost all PLC programs: the sequence. A PLC is tasked with doing a series of things over and over. We control this series with a programming concept called a sequence. This is a structured way of using inputs to drive changes in “state” or “step” which in turn set outputs. This makes it easy to program, easy to read, and easy to troubleshoot. Of course, there are many ways to do a sequence. This is one, and we’ll go through others in more videos in the near future.

This is part of our PLC Programming Cookbook series. Check out the whole series (always growing) below!

Hi Jon, I’ve just discovered your series. Of interest to me are the videos on sequencing. Along with delightful and clear oration, your focus on essentials presented succinctly, has proven very clarifying for me. Many thanks! I sincerely wish that you will continue the series(I was looking for a way to donate toward this end but I found no avenue?)

      Hi Kiril,

Thanks so much for the kind words. I’ve been drowningly busy for a couple years – pandemic made everything hard, and more work than ever – but I think I’m back to regular recording now. (fingers crossed) A few upcoming relate to sequences in one way or another.

I don’t have a way for people to directly support the YouTube content yet, but if you’re interested in any of the video courses we sell on this site, I think they teach essential skills for a controls engineer that you won’t learn anywhere else.

      Cheers,

      Jon
